Backing up and restoring your site.
Every website is backed up automatically. How to restore a file, a folder, a database, a mailbox or the whole site — and how to download a backup.
You don't need to set anything up: every website is backed up automatically, files and mail every day and databases several times a day. Backups are kept on separate storage, so they survive a problem with the server itself.
Where they are
Your project → Website → Backups. Restore points are listed by date — today, yesterday, a few days ago; older ones are kept monthly.
Restoring files or a folder
- Pick the date.
- Under Website files, open the folders and tick the files or folders you need.
- Click Restore chosen — the chosen files and folders are replaced with their copies from the backup.
Restore all files puts every file of the site back as of that date.
Restoring a database
Under Databases, click Restore next to the database. The current database is replaced with its copy: changes made after that date are lost. Export the current one first (download it) if you may need something from it.
Restoring a mailbox
Under Mailboxes, click Restore next to the mailbox to bring back its mail as of that date.
Restoring the whole site
Restore the whole site puts back files, databases and mail as of the chosen date. Use it after a hack or a failed update when you are not sure what changed.
Downloading a backup
Tick files or folders and click Download chosen, or Download next to a database. A larger archive is prepared first: follow it under Restores and downloads at the top, and download it when it says Archive ready.
Progress
Restores run in the background. Restores and downloads shows each one while it runs; you can leave the page.
Before a risky change
Updating WordPress, changing PHP or editing code? Make a staging copy first (Website → Staging): you try the change on a copy and push it to the live site only when it works.
