How our free migration service works.

We migrate your existing site to Rivervo at no cost — what we move, what's required from you, and the timeline.

3 MIN READ

Every Rivervo plan includes free site migration. We do the work, you keep your day. Here's how it works.

What's included

We migrate:

  • Files — entire public_html/ and any related directories
  • Databases — all MySQL/MariaDB databases used by your site
  • Email — mailboxes, forwarders, autoresponders, filters
  • DNS records — A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT — copied from old to new
  • SSL certificates — issued fresh on Rivervo (or kept if custom-bought)
  • Cron jobs — replicated on the new account

For most setups, this means your entire site lifts and shifts with zero data loss.

What we don't migrate

  • Custom server config outside cPanel (specialized firewall rules, custom Apache modules) — we'll discuss alternatives
  • Live VPS / dedicated server data larger than 100 GB — needs a paid migration plan
  • Sites on platforms without backup access (some closed SaaS) — we can guide self-export

What you provide

To start:

  1. Old hosting credentials. Either cPanel login OR FTP+database details OR a complete backup.
  2. Your DNS provider login (so we can update nameservers when ready) OR explicit instructions for you to update them yourself.
  3. A preferred cutover window — usually 1‑2 hours when you can confirm the new site looks right.

The process

Day 1 (request)

  1. Open a migration request in Panel → Support → New Migration Request
  2. Provide credentials (encrypted in our ticket system)
  3. Confirm what's being moved

Day 1‑3 (we work)

  1. Engineer copies files + databases to new account
  2. Engineer sets up email + cron + DNS records
  3. We test the new site at a temp URL (like yourdomain.com.5-9-109-61.cpanel.site)
  4. We send you the temp URL with checklist of things to verify

Day 2‑5 (you verify)

  1. You browse the temp URL, log in to your CMS, click through key pages
  2. You report any issues; we fix
  3. When you give the green light, we schedule cutover

Cutover (15-30 minutes)

  1. Final delta sync of files + DB (catches new content since initial copy)
  2. DNS update (we do this if you gave us provider access; otherwise you do it)
  3. SSL re-issue on new account
  4. Old site can stay running for 7 days as fallback

Day +7 (cleanup)

  1. We confirm everything's working in production for a week
  2. You can cancel old hosting whenever ready

Total time

Most migrations: 24‑72 hours from request to cutover. The cutover itself is under 30 minutes of actual downtime, sometimes zero.

Large sites (>20 GB or complex stacks): 3‑7 days. We'll quote upfront.

Common questions

Will my SEO suffer during migration? No. Search engines see the same content, same URLs, same meta. We preserve everything. The brief cutover window doesn't affect ranking.

Can you migrate from [specific old host]? Yes — we've migrated from every major host: GoDaddy, Bluehost, HostGator, SiteGround, Namecheap, Hostinger, A2, DreamHost, Kinsta, WP Engine, plus dozens of regional providers. Each has its quirks, none are blockers.

What if you break my site? Your old site stays running until cutover. If something goes wrong, you stay on old host while we fix on new. You only commit to Rivervo at the cutover step, after you've verified.

Multiple sites — discount on migration? Free covers up to 5 sites in a single request. More than 5: still free, but the timeline scales.

WordPress Multisite, WooCommerce, headless sites? All supported. Tell us in the request and we send a specialist for that stack.
